The Heritage Cup – born out of a series of international exhibition games between Israel, Philippines, and later Greece and Hungary – is held near the host city of the NCAA Championship weekend, with games held early in the mornings so athletes have the opportunity to spectate the Final Four.
The opportunity to take part in two meaningful experiences – spectating the sport’s most prominent college programs, along with wearing the jersey of your homeland – makes for a complete weekend.
While the primary focus of the weekend is to raise awareness and donated equipment to support the development of youth lacrosse in the participating countries, the competition on the field is real. Teams representing Puerto Rico (World #8 ranked), Philippines (#10), Ireland (#12), Jamaica (#13) and 10+ other countries traditionally join Israel to compete.
Most of the participating teams are comprised of predominantly “heritage players” who are eligible to compete for their respective national teams under World Lacrosse criteria as non-passport holders.
Israel will be competing in the Women’s (16+), Men’s, U-18, U-15 and U-13 boys divisions. Youth players will receive instruction by experienced men’s national team players and coaches during their games, and a skills clinic throughout the weekend.
